Child safety standards
Glimpsing has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). This page sets out our standards, how to report a concern, and what we do about it.
Our standards
These are never allowed on Glimpsing, in posts, captions, voice notes, replies, profile photos or group names:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including drawn, edited or AI-generated images.
- Any content that sexualizes a minor.
- Grooming: building a relationship with a minor in order to abuse or exploit them.
- Sextortion: threatening to share intimate images of a minor, or demanding them.
- Trafficking or any other exploitation of a minor.
Our Terms of Service prohibit all of this, and breaking these standards means losing your account for good.
Age requirement
You must be at least 13 to have a Glimpsing account. Everyone picks their age range when they sign up, and every option starts at 13. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it.
Parents and guardians can add family profiles for children under 13. These have no login of their own: the parent posts on the child's behalf, only to groups the parent is in, and can delete the profile at any time. Family profiles can't make an avatar from a face scan.
Private by design
- No public profiles, no follower lists and no way to search for people. You only see Glimpses from groups you've been invited to.
- You can block anyone, and blocked people can't see your Glimpses or send you private ones.
- Photos and videos have location metadata removed on upload, and location stamps show a city at most.
How to report
In the app. Open the Glimpse, tap the ⋯ (More options) button, tap Report, choose Child safety, and tap Send report. Reports are anonymous: the person you report isn't told who reported them. You can also block them in the same step.
By email. Write to [email protected] with the subject "Child safety". Tell us what you saw, which group it was in and the person's name in the app. Please don't attach the images.
If a child is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number first. You can also report directly to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) at report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678.
What we do
- Remove it at once. A child safety report takes the Glimpse down for everyone, in every group it was sent to, the moment it's filed. It stays down while we review it.
- Review urgently. Child safety reports alert our team straight away and are reviewed before anything else.
- Report to the authorities. When we find child sexual abuse material, we report it to NCMEC's CyberTipline, as US law requires, and NCMEC works with law enforcement in the US and abroad. We also respond to valid requests from law enforcement.
- Preserve evidence. We keep a secured copy of the material and the account details the report needs, for as long as the law requires, even if the account is deleted. Only our safety team and the authorities can access them.
- Ban the account. We delete the account and ban the person, keeping a scrambled fingerprint of their sign-in details and a mark on their device so they can't sign up again.
Other harm to young people, such as bullying, self-harm content or nudity, can be reported the same way, and we remove it and act on the account as our Terms set out.
